Bill to License Health Insurance Navigators Moves Forward

Health Insurance Navigator Bill Passes in Georgia - Telemedicine and Telehealth NewsLegislation paving the way for a new kind of healthcare worker passed the Georgia legislature in March. The health insurance navigator would be a licensed and regulated profession in health care, helping residents learn about the Affordable Care Act as well as low-income residents understand the state’s health programs.  According to the Center on Health Insurance Reforms, under the Affordable Care Act, navigators must conduct public education activities; distribute fair and impartial information on enrolling in coverage through the exchange, the availability of tax credits, and cost-sharing reductions; facilitate enrollment in qualified health plans; provide referrals to other consumer assistance organizations or state agencies to address health insurance issues; and provide information in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
